I haven’t talked much about what is coming up for me this fall with school and all, but I’m going to be finishing my bachelor’s in accounting at Northwest University. I’ll write more about all the crazy changes that will come with all of that later, but right now I’d like to talk briefly about what I’m doing this summer in my preparation for all the impending changes.

Rehearsing The Plan

First off, my schedule once school starts is going to be to be pretty intense: 18 semester credits+ 20-30 hours of work + maybe even trying out for the track team? I’m supposed to have some kind of social life in there as well, since one of my main reasons for going to NU is the culture.

Since this is going to be a very demanding schedule, I decided I might as well start practicing now. As much as I can possibly do, I’m going to emulate my daily activities when I’m at school so I can experiment with the different variables so I can discover how I can successfully achieve a healthy balance of all my activities.

I won’t be able to replicate my schedule completely until August 1st when I move onto campus early (surprise!) but as for right now, I’m at least studying in 50 minute time-blocks during the times I will be in class.

What I’m doing for study is I’m going over my old Accounting textbook to refresh my memory on the details of accounting so I’m all ready to go once my real accounting class starts. I’m also taking an Old Testament History class through Global University that I’ll be able to transfer over to NU, so I’ll be able to knock out at least one of my classes before school starts (and at like, 1/10 of the price!). I also have an Excel introductory class I got off Groupon that I’ll work on as well. For the other time slots, I’ll either be reading books, “knowledge-logging” (still a pending blog post. Coming soon!), and writing blog posts.

What I Expect to Happen

What is great about doing this, is that I will have so much practice with this schedule, that once school starts and everyone is adjusting from their summer break and getting adjusted to the new school (for new students like me that is), I will already be fresh on my accounting skills and just study habits in general. I will also will be adjusted to the dorm life, and as well as knowing my way around campus as well as any other details involving living on campus. I will also know how much time I will have available to eat, study after class, and as well socialize.

If this is done right, I should be able maximize my time while keeping a healthy balance so I can sustain throughout the semester.

A Message to You

I share this, first for accountability, and second to be an encouragement to you. I have the opportunity to look ahead at what is coming and make preparations, but sometimes that isn’t the case. Sometimes you get dropped right in the middle of chaos. I hope that you can see that if you look at your time as extremely valuable and are intentional about putting it to effective use, you can achieve whatever it is you are striving towards! Be intentional about your time and look at it through the lens of a mad scientist and see what crazy experiments you can conduct on your time that works best for you. The core of all that is that whatever it is you are working to accomplish in life, it is possible. Don’t give up, current failure doesn’t have to stay absolute! Re-evaluate and keep moving forward!
